Trade and investment relations between China and Malta were discussed today during talks between Finance Minister Tonio Fenech and Chinese Deputy Minister of Trade Zhong Shan, who is visiting Malta.

The talks focused particularly on renewable energy, tourism and financial services.

Malta and China last month signed a memorandum of understanding to facilitate financial services by nationals and corporates from their respective countries.

Malta has also agreed to participate in the World Expo which will be held in Shanghai from May.

In a comment to the press, Mr Fenech noted that trade exchanges between the two countries grew by almost 10 percent last year, the biggest increase between China and an EU country.
