Briton Jason Lee Holland, 39, was jailed for 42 months today after he was convicted of being in possession of a kilo of cannabis, possession of heroin, resisting and threatening the police, slightly injuring an officer and disobeying orders. He was also fined €4,680.

His girlfriend Sheri Anne Steedman, 38 was convicted of possession of cannabis and was jailed for 35 months and also fined €4,680.

The two filed a guilty plea late in the court proceedings.

They were arrested last year along with two Serbian men and a Maltese after the discovery by the police of 469 kilos of cannabis.

The cannabis was found in a hotel room in Swieqi, down a hole in a field close to Victoria Gardens, Ibraġ, and at an apartment at nearby Wied Id-Dis, Madliena.

The total haul was estimated to be worth €1.5 million and was more than twice the total amount found in the past eight years.
