The house on stilts
James A. Tyrell asks why it had to be Renzo Piano to be chosen to design the Valletta project (January 27).
If I remember correctly it was Lawrence Gonzi himself who said that the project, as designed by Mr Piano, will attract a good number of tourists to our island. Well, it may come to pass as he said but I wonder what their reactions will be when they gaze at our house on stilts, tennis court and slit in the wall.

@Joe Busuttil ... Visitors reactions will be the same that they have when they see the Pompidou Centre in Paris, the Nemo science museum in Amsterdam, the Living Roof of the California Academy of Sciences, the Nichols Bridgeway in Chicago, the New York Times building, the Parco della Musica auditorium in Rome, the Kansai International airport in Osaka, the Aurora Place in Sydney etc. etc. etc.!

lol guys.
I sometimes wonder if LG takes the time to read these blogs. If he did, then he would learn far more about public opinion than the sycophants he surrounds himself would dare tell him. But then he would know how the electorate feels about his house on stilts, or what I prefer to think of as the Gonzi monument to self gratification and arrogance. Well, you know what they say about pride before a fall.

It should indeed be an interesting reaction Joe. Valletta is a beautiful old city and I'm sure tourists like myself find the beautiful examples of Baroque architecture far more interesting than anything Renzo Piano could envisage. Maybe the house on stilts has some meaning though. Perhaps Dr. Gonzi is worried that the present wave of opposition to his leadership will turn into a tsunami!

Sp Dr Gonzi thinks that tourists will flock to Malta just to see HIS new talking shop. Poor fellow really must have lost the plot.
