Preparations for the Malta EuroSong contest are done on a shoestring budget where the taxpayers only pay 10 euro cents each and the rest of the money is generated through sponsorships, PBS chairman Clare Thake Vassallo said.
Indeed, the budget of one night on Rai television was what PBS got in a whole year from the government, Dr Thake Vassallo said in an interview published by The Sunday Times.
Referring to this year's L-Istrina, Dr Thake Vassallo said that it was a good thing that "the people were listened to" and the format was changed, but prizes that used to be part of the activity were another form of donations. She also responds to allegations of political bias, saying that TVM is the most balanced station but its priority is not just politics.
