The corporation said the revisions reflected the prices fetched for the latest shipments of imported fuel. The January unleaded consignment was based on January Platts average levels, which were higher than December levels on which previous revisions were based. Unfavourable movements in the exchange rate had also contributed to the increase of the unleaded price.
Enemalta said it purchased a substantial diesel consignment in December which had enabled it to maintain stability in the diesel price. The slight increase was the result of the dollar fluctuations during January.
"Since October 2009, the euro has weakened from highs of $1.50 to lows of $1.40 in January 2010 as seen in chart below. Such exchange rate movements have been detrimental to Enemalta's retail product purchases," the corporation said.
