The Malta Karate Federation (MKF) recently invited Santo Torre and Yumi Hasegawa to conduct a training seminar.

Maestro Torre is the kata coach for the Italian Karate Federation while Maestro Hasegawa forms part of the team of coaches within the Japanese Karate Federation.

In all, 120 karatekas participated in the training camp which was held at the Pembroke primary school.

In addition, four members from the Japanese Junior Karate Team actively participated in the seminar along with Alessandra Cremona, an Italian World Karate Federation champion.

The various aspects of the sport covered included Kumite (sparring/fighting) and Kihon/Kata (basics/forms).

In a statement, the federation said the feedback received was positive and preparations are underway to hold a follow-up camp later on this year.

The MKF, the only federation in Malta directly affiliated to the World Karate Federation, has seven clubs in Malta, namely Birkirkara, Fgura, Naxxar, Mġarr, Mtarfa, Paola and Pembroke.
