Castello Dei Baroni has opened its doors to the public to become one of the country’s tourist attractions.

Built in 1783 during the time of Grand Master Emanuel de Rohan Polduc, the Castello is one of Malta’s formerly hidden historical treasures.

A site already established as a wedding venue, it will now be welcoming visitors Mondays to Fridays, offering displays of ancient pastimes and sports, such as falconry and field archery.

The Castello Dei Baroni tour begins with a virtual panoramic history of the Knights of St John who played a pivotal role in the formation of Malta’s heritage and history.

The show will be followed by a guided tour of the Castello, detailing its origins as a hunting lodge and how it may have been used by the knights.

The recreation of the Grand Masters bedroom, the meditation room (chapel), library and the Supreme Council Chamber have been designed to give visitors a real and tangible feel of the life and times of the Knights.

One could also enjoy some unique leisure time at the well-stocked coffee shop, picnic area and surf the net on the free Wi-Fi system.

Castello dei Baroni was inaugurated as a tourist attraction by Prime Minister Dr. Lawrence Gonzi this morning.
