Tried to leave Malta using false documents
A Ghanaian man was yesterday jailed for seven months after he tried to leave Malta on Tuesday using false travel documents.
John Adema, a 35-year-old illegal immigrant, was caught by airport officials in possession of a false Italian travelling document, an Italian identity card and a Ghanaian passport, which did not belong to him. Mr Adema, who pleaded guilty, was on his way to Rome.
Magistrate Antonio Mizzi jailed him for seven months after taking into consideration his early admission.
Police Inspector Joseph Hersey prosecuted. Lawyer Mark Busuttil was defence counsel.

there is no doubt as to that lgalea's real agenda is really a political one. however, both political party leaders are serious enough to know that malta cannot choose to honour international legal obligations at whim, if it wants to be taken as a serious state.

As you have said we may disagree on other things, but when it comes to defending Malta, the Maltese society and culture from the mass invasion of illegal immigrants we are on the same wavelength. Pity that there are some who continue to bury their head in the sand and defend illegal immigrants instead of their own country and brethren.

Footnote 1 page 3 of the same document
"(f) overcoming discrimination and promoting the integration of immigrants and the social and labour market inclusion of ethnic minorities, and...
Do we need any more proof that they are hellbent to destroy Maltese society?
Are we going to stand still and not fight for our right not to have OUR MALTESE SOCIETY AND CULTURE destroyed by the eu and the lackey pn government?

judgements are handed down by the judiciary, which is independent of the executive (including the PM). living in the US, you should know that the principle of the separation of powers, especially the independence of the judiciary, is a core of all western democracies.

Italian documents must be easily forged and obtained! The best way to keep out illegal immigrants is to make sure they don`t get a visa granted.

Dear all,
the eu has dedicated 2010 as the year of poverty and social exclusion. First of all there are 80 MILLION persons living in POVERTY in the eu. But what I want to share with you is the Maltese Government National Programme which can be downloaded from
http://www.2010againstpoverty.eu/mycountry/countries/malta.html?langid=en or directly from
http://www.2010againstpoverty.eu/extranet/mt_national_programme_en.pdf
This is taken from page 3 of the document.
"• promoting equality of opportunities so as to ensure full social participation regardless of age,
disability, gender, race, belief and sexual orientation, by (i) combating discrimination, (ii)
promoting the integration of third country nationals and (iii) mainstreaming social inclusion
and anti-discrimination issues."
NOTE "promoting the integration of third country nationals"
THIS MEANS THAT NOT ONLY EU NATIONALS HAVE THE RIGHT TO COME AND LIVE IN MALTA, BUT WE ALSO HAVE TO LUMP THOSE FROM THIRD COUNTRIES INCLUDING ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS.
THIS IS WHAT IS BEING IMPLEMENTED BY THE PRESENT GOVERNMENT AND THE EU.
THIS IS WHAT IS BEING DONE TO US AND OUR DEAR COUNTRY.
WHEN ARE THE PEOPLE GOING TO RISE AGAINST ALL THESE IMPOSITIONS THAT ARE DESTROYING MALTA ITS CULTURE AND US?

You keep thinking that sean grima, all I know these offences used to get suspended sentences. Now they are getting jail sentences. PM Gonzi is even getting a little tough on illegal immigrants. Remember he didn't give in to Italy and refused a few hundred last year. Keep thinking that and we will keep pressing the government to do the right thing.

you are all wasting your time because no serious politician or judge/magistrate would take any notice of such arguments.

@lgalea: Well said. When it comes to protecting Malta from illegal immigrants, we think so much alike.

Good sentence at least better than a suspended sentence. Deport him after he serves his sentence.

Nationals of Ghana have no business to do in Malta and should be immediately repatriated, not sent to prison. Ghana is 700 times as big as Malta and Ghanaians have enough space in their country. Ghana was visited by President Obama because it is a model of democracy for all of Africa. The following is from BBC country profiles:
A well-administered country by regional standards, Ghana is often seen as a model for political and economic reform in Africa. Cocoa exports are an essential part of the economy; Ghana is the world's second-largest producer. The discovery of major offshore oil reserves was announced in June 2007, encouraging expectations of a major economic boost... The IMF said the Ghanaian economy had proved to be relatively resilient because of the high prices of cocoa and gold.

1. because you cannot deport someone whose documents are false - how do you know where to send him? 2. because deportation is not one of the punishments contemplated by law for this crime, and cannot be, due to the reason i mentioned.
