May I, through the columns of this popular newspaper, on behalf of the residents of Gudja, congratulate the players and officials of the PO's Bar darts team and the Malta Darts Association for their valued efforts to hold a 50-hour darts marathon this weekend, commencing tomorrow, Friday, at 7 p.m.
Also as part of this marathon, on Sunday at 10 a.m. the Gudja local council will be holding a five-kilometre walk, or fun run, around our serene countryside. Booking for this event is open at the Gudja local council for a nominal fee of €5.
Participants will be complimented with a small token on this occasion. The two local band clubs are giving a helping hand to this fund-raising activity by holding a musical programme in the main square, and a show of motor cycles - weather permitting. It's interesting to say that all this is being done in order to collect funds in aid of Puttinu Cares, an organisation which supports in no small way those children diagnosed with cancer.
Naturally, we are conscious of the enormous amount of money the Maltese people have contributed towards the many charitable appeals that we had during the Christmas and the New Year's festivities but we do not doubt the Maltese generosity. Our people contribute throughout the whole year whenever the need arises.
For this reason we hope that readers will pay us a visit, at their convenience, any time this weekend to help us in this noble cause.
