BoV supports Entomological Society

Bank of Valletta is one of the main sponsors of the annual publication issued by The Entomological Society of Malta.

David Mifsud, president of the society and editor of the publication presented a copy of the book to Edward Muscat Azzopardi, head of marketing at Bank of Valletta, in recognition of the bank's support.

Mr Muscat Azzopardi said: "We are proud to be supporting the Entomological Society of Malta by co-sponsoring its publication. The bank actively supports efforts to promote awareness of the challenges faced by our environment. One particular issue that has had a significant impact on our local environment this year was the control of the Red Palm Weevil, a matter dealt with in depth within this publication."

"The new edition of the publication contains more than 50 new records of arthropods from the Maltese islands, along with descriptions of a new species of moth endemic to the Maltese islands", said Dr Mifsud.

"In the publication we also tackle control strategies for the Red Palm weevil, sand flies and their role in canine and human leishmaniasis, aphids on native trees in Malta, bark beetles and others".

The ESM was officially established in 1998 as a non-profit, educational and scientific organisation. The purpose of the society is to promote the science of entomology in all its branches, to further the scientifically study of entomology, to publish relevant scientific information and facilitate cooperation and collaboration in all the fields of entomology.
