Kirkland: Wigan will be without first-choice goalkeeper Chris Kirkland for up to three weeks after he damaged his collarbone. The 28-year-old suffered the injury in an accidental collision in training last week.
Cabanas: Paraguay striker Salvador Cabanas was shot in the head yesterday in an apparent robbery and was being treated in intensive care at a Mexico City hospital. Cabanas, 29, was attacked when he left a bar. The player is a prolific scorer for Mexican club America and was expected to feature in the World Cup.
Weiss: Bolton have signed Slovak international Vladimir Weiss on loan from Manchester City. The 20-year-old midfielder, who has made four cup appearances for City, will join Bolton until the end of the season.
Welbeck: Preston have signed Manchester United striker Danny Welbeck on loan for the rest of the season. The 19-year-old, who signed a four-year extension to his United contract in December, goes straight into the North End squad in time for today's trip to Peterborough.
Notts County: Notts County are facing up to the prospect that they need £2m by tomorrow in order for the club to survive. The Magpies are due in the court in two days after the club's owners Blenheim 1862 were served a winding-up petition over an unpaid £600,000 tax bill.
Fan dies: A 51-year-old man died during Sunday night's Milan derby between Inter and Milan at the San Siro after suffering a suspected cardiac arrest. The man was from Cesano Maderno in the Milanese outskirts and was in a section of the stadium containing sets of fans from both teams.
French Cup: Bordeaux will host Ligue 1 rivals Monaco in the French Cup round of 16 following the draw. League leaders Bordeaux easily went through with a 5-1 demolition of second division Ajaccio on Saturday while Monaco struggled past former champions Lyon 2-1.

Basket, Nba: The Toronto Raptors eked out a 106-105 victory over the Los Angeles Lakers after Kobe Bryant missed a three-pointer just before the buzzer on Sunday. Hedo Turkoglu made two free-throws with 1.2 seconds to play as the Raptors scored the game's final five points to claim a ninth win in their last 10 home games.
Cricket: India have appealed against the one-year ban imposed on New Delhi's Feroz Shah Kotla stadium after a dangerous pitch led to the abandonment of one-day international in the Indian capital last month. Michael Beloff, chairman of the ICC Code of Conduct commission, will hear the appeal.
Boxing: Former world champion Rodrigo Barrios, of Argentina, was in police custody yesterday after crashing his car into four people and killing a pregnant woman. Barrios, 33, the WBO junior featherweight champion in 2005-06, was held on Sunday night after crashing into three parked cars and passers-by.
Commonwealth Games: India unveiled a refurbished hockey stadium, the first venue to be completed for this year's Commonwealth Games and promised all other facilities would be ready in time for the October 3-14 event in New Delhi. India came under severe criticism after construction of several venues, including the athletes' village, fell behind schedule. Named after hockey player Dhyan Chand, the venue will host the men's hockey World Cup next month.
Snooker: Barry Hawkins whitewashed 2002 world champion Peter Ebdon to reach the second round of the Welsh Open in Newport yesterday. World number 17 Hawkins did not hang around against Ebdon, ranked three places higher than him. A break of 85 in the first frame set the tone and he raced into a 3-0 lead. Ebdon kept the 30-year-old on his toes with a 50 break in the fourth frame, but Hawkins responded with a 64 to continue his momentum. Hawkins closed out the match with a 33 clearance in the fifth.
