Plans to combat flagging interest

World badminton authorities aim to combat dwindling interest in their 12-leg super series by creating a top tier comprising up to four elite tournaments next season.

Badminton World Federation deputy president Paisarn Rangsikitpho told Malaysian media that tier one events would have minimum prize money of $400,000 and tier two a minimum $200,000.

"The first tier may consist of three or four Opens. These tournaments will offer lucrative prize money and we will look into a professional way to run the event," Rangsikitpho said.

"Our findings on the super series over the last three years showed that there were some inconsistencies."

Rangsikitpho said a final decision on a format change would be taken in March.
