Most cases of child-abuse, abuse of any kind, is perpetrated by people known to the children. This stands to reason. The abuser needs easy access and dialogue and swearing to secrecy and blackmail........all situations the stranger would not have easy access to. This is why networking with responsible adults like teachers are paramount. People trained to detect and report telltale signs of unexplained bruising, excessive fatigue, use of inappropriate and uncharacteristic language, etc. This does not mean a sudden surge of paranoia on the part of the parents. But it does mean that ALWAYS suspecting the stranger, and often scapegoating him/her is futile, a waste of time and puts children at even greater danger of undetected abuse that can go on for years. And it is to be remembered always that abuse can be perpetrated in the most unexpected places, by the most unexpected people. Learn the value of talking, really talking and communicating with your children. But be careful not to put words into their mouths as the little ones are prone to
go into overdrive when their imagination gets going. Not easy. But having children is not easy. And whoever may havesaid it was, was a lying hound.
