Pavement gone to the dogs
I would like to say a big thanks to all those dog owners who are using the pavement surrounding the Birkirkara primary school as toilet grounds for their dogs.
They are a big nuisance to us parents and our children. I just want to remind them that those big orange bins that the local council put up around the school are there for the use of dog owners, although no one seems to use them.
Please respect our kids just like you respect your dogs.

More thanks come from myself to those who insist on calling themselves human beings who on a regular basis use my facade as their dear pet's public (or should I say canine) convenience. It is a shame to see many a housewife dedicating ample time to the cleanliness of her facade only to allow her pet to dirty other people's property. I always thought that there is a law that stipulates that dog poo should be disposed of in an appropriate manner. Some selfish people seem be beyond everything. As long as our homes are tidy on the inside, it never matters what we do outside. Enforcement by the local council may help.

Why oh why cannot so many of the dog owners in Malta take responsibility for this situation. Perhaps if one or two children or adults were to die from infections sourced from this selfish activity there may be some action.
I thought that the wardens were supposed to deal with this or is it that poorly parked cars don't bite! Perhaps the wardens job should be amended to cover the REMOVAL of dog mess and then let's see if the situation improves!
Perhaps wardens don't like confrontation, but the situation will not improve until a more serious view of this problem is taken by the authorities. After all it must be the same people who offend each day.
Attitudes and responsibilities must change in Malta for many things, why not start with this?
Perhaps we should start collecting it and popping it through councellors' letterboxes and see if that concentrates theie minds to act upon those dog owners who are so selfish and encourage disease in Malta incobveniencing both locals and the seemingly dwindling tourists.

What an appropriate heading. We have indeed gone (back) to the dogs.
This problem is present in most localities.
We had seen an improvement a few years back, but we have regressed.
The relevant authorities should broadacast a warning to dog owners that they will be heavily fined if they do not clean up after their dogs. And then do it.

I totally agree with Mr Tanti's comments. Personnaly, as College Principal, I was engaged in discussions with Birkirkara Local Government who invested in appropriate bins around the primary school. I am also in favour of putting on cameras so that irresponsible people pay for their irresponsibilities.

A very good point. As an animal lover I urge to those many like me loves our pets, not to be a nuisance to others. Every body must understand that it is not the dog`s fault, but it is our responsibility to clean after, that is the commitment. But we have to understand too that there are many stray dogs running around, and do as well. Who is going to volunteer ? But let us not forget that we took their place to make a pavement.
