For completeness sake, I would like to add that Mattia Preti has been in the council's plans for the past years. In fact, it was one of the initial works commissioned to our architects when we were elected.
Last July, the plans were completed and submitted to Mepa (case number PA/03437/09). At the moment, we're in the final stages of the application. The paving of the square has been chosen in accordance with the Master Plan drafted by the Valletta Rehabilitation Committee (VRC) and we're expecting the issuing of the permits soon. Hopefully, in the coming months we'll have a newly refurbished square.
However, the Valletta council is also planning a new playground in the Lower Barrakka area and we're also exploring the possibility of creating a third playground. Our architects are also working on plans for the upgrading of Peacock's Gardens which, will not only provide tourists with impressive views of the Marsamxetto harbour, but will also incorporate a children's area.
As a council, children are at the top of our agenda and we're striving to create areas where they can play in a safe environment.
