SmartCity: First office block takes shape
The main structure of the first office block of SmartCity Malta is fast taking shape at Ricasoli.
Work on the road which will lead to the building has also started. The office block will have space of 12,000 sqm.
"The site-wide grading plan ensures the comfort of future SmartCity Malta business partners, by isolating construction work away from completed project phases. In this way noise and dust pollution is greatly reduced and health and safety measures are met," the company said.
The office block will be inaugurated later this year.

Great to see this finally taking shape... as an IT worker and qualified IT Lecturer, lover of Malta and it's people and someone planning to relocate from Salford, Manchester to your sunny, warm shores to teach IT, I'm pleased to see that after a slow start it's now looking like the vision for SmartCity will be realised in time. With a similar regeneration happening here in Salford (but several years more advanced) I truly feel that as long as correct businesses are encouraged to settle in SmartCity it will be great for the Maltese economy and employment prospects. Good luck with this Malta!

Lil dawk kollha li llum ma jippretendux li xi hadd jikkritikhom. Ghax meta jaqbel lilkom tfakkru l-passat. Biss tinsew li meta tippontaw subghajkom il-werrej lejn xi hadd hemm tlieta ohra jippontaw lejnkom stess. "Dak li mhux tajjeb ghall-papra, mhux tajjeb ghall-papru" u "twadbux gebel lejn djar tal-hgieg, ghax taghkom tal-hgieg ukoll". Dawn huma zewg proverbji mill-hafna li jixirqulkom, hbieb. Mhux kwestjoni li xi hadd qed imaqdar, imma jekk inharsu lejn il-progett tac-Cirkewwa, heqq!! Pero ghax jaqbel lilkom mar-rispondejtux il-mistoqsija tieghi dwar minhu xettiku! Difficli daqskhekk? Nahseb qabel ma nibdew jew ahjar nistahbew wara xenxilli bhal dawn, ahjar naraw l-iktar affarijiet essenzjali bhal kemm ahna qed inkunu trattati ta' humani bid-drittijiet kollha li suppost ghandna ga la darba llum Ewropej. Suppost intom hekk temmnu li kellna nkunu...imma!! Insejtu li permezz tal-EU kellu jispispiccaw il-monoplji. Possibbli ghamejtu tant li qed thallu l-EneMalta u WSC jirfsu fuq u jghafgu l-minhu dghajef? Qed taraw kemm il-banek illum qed jahtfu bini bis-subbasta? U mela taljenaw raskom fuq bicca binja li wara kollox hija tal-barrani m'hix taghna l-Maltin. Ara l-art tal-Qawra haduha ghax tawilhom. Kemm ser idum il-Ministru Gatt biex jghidlina il-verita dawr dik l-art? It-tlellix mhux necessarju li hu deheb, bhaIl-White Rocks!!!

No one wants to see the project fail. 100% the project will get finished and the Maltese tax payer will be landed with the bill for yet another hotel complex with crazy priced apartments. Will any IT firms lease the office space? Doubt it. Business Real estate prices have fallen all over the EU, what makes Malta so special that big IT will be interested when London, Paris, Benelux, Spain, Portugal eastern Europe commercial real estate prices have collapsed? One would think that a wise government would be looking at making sure that essential electricity supplies are there and that a well thought out water managment policy was embarked on before building more empty real estate projects. Without water and electricity sustainability, this project is as viable as a white elephant.

But why always writing about doom and gloom? Is there no space in your minds about something bright?

@S.Grech: Which skeptics? Those who are about to loose their job with GO? The Maltese who lost piece of land in Qawra worth over €23.3million given away to Tecom Plc? So by your terms, ex-CEO Claudio Grech who resigned from this project is a skeptic? The race is till the finish line. Then we'll see!!

It would appear that the builders are forseeing that the sea level could rise.
Thinking for the future.
