A record 370 TV programmes, including 11 drama-related submissions, have been entered for the Malta Television Awards.

All the major stations have considerably increased the number of entries. One TV has the lion's share of submissions with 155, 20 more than last year. Next in line is Net TV, with 56 entries in contrast to last year's 41.

But it is not just a question of quantity but of quality too, according to Silvio Scerri, a director of Mermaid Media Entertainment, which organises the event.

The participation confirmed that people believed in the awards, he said.

This year's event sees the introduction of more transparency. In fact, nominees who do not win an award will be able to see the judges' comments and the order of the points allocated.

Scar, Ivan Filletti, Ira Losco and Niki Gravino will be among those performing on the night, with DJ Ruby and DJ duo Tenishia closing the event.

The nomination night will be held at the Heat bar and diner at the Waterfront on February 12 and the awards night will take place on February 27 at the Malta Fairs and Conventions Centre in Ta' Qali.

The awards will be screened live on all local television stations.
