Everton have agreed a deal with Arsenal to bring in defender Philippe Senderos on loan until the end of the campaign, the Goodison Park club have announced.

The 24-year-old Swiss international joined the Gunners in December 2002, but has found himself surplus to requirements and spent last season on loan at Milan.

A statement on Everton's website, www.evertonfc.com, confirmed the deal is expected to be concluded in the coming days.

"Everton and Arsenal have agreed a deal to bring Swiss international defender Philippe Senderos to Goodison Park," the club statement said.

Nimani to join Burnley

France under-21 striker Frederic Nimani is set to become Brian Laws' first signing as manager of Premier League club Burnley subject to international clearance.

The Clarets have agreed a five-month loan deal with a view to a permanent contract for the AS Monaco forward, who came through the Ligue 1 club's youth system, the Lancashire club said.

The 21-year-old has already had loan spells with FC Lorient and Sedan, and had interested other top flight clubs, but opted to join Burnley, who are 15th in the 20-team Premier League and a point above the drop zone.

Celtic to sign Danish striker

Scottish giants Celtic manager Tony Mowbray's bid to freshen up his squad took another step forward yesterday as his one million pound bid for Danish striker Morten Rasmussen was accepted by the player's club Brondby.

Rasmussen, who will turn 25 on January 31, has yet to decide whether he wants to move to Celtic as he is desperate to make Denmark's World Cup finals squad.

The striker - who is playing for the Danish League Select at the King's Cup invitational tournament in Thailand - has been with Brondby since making a 1.2million pounds move from Aarhus in 2006.

Rasmussen, whose nickname is Duncan because his style of play has been compared to former Everton, Rangers and Scotland striker Duncan Ferguson, has scored 52 goals in 111 appearances for Brondby.

Fowler's A-League future in doubt

Robbie Fowler's playing future in Australia's A-League is in doubt after a selection dispute at his North Queensland Fury club, reports said yesterday.

The former England international striker refused to play in a changed playing formation for the Fury's home match against Brisbane Roar in Townsville, according to Fox Sports.

Fowler, 34, was subsequently not named in the Fury's squad for the match and his position with the club appears uncertain.

The former Liverpool star is the highest-profile signing in the five years of the A-League and is playing club football outside England for the first time since he finished as the fourth-highest all-time scorer with 161 goals in the Premier League.

Iaquinta to stay at Juventus

Vincenzo Iaquinta's agent has confirmed Chelsea's interest in the striker, but says he will remain with Juventus.

The London club have managed well without strikers Didier Drogba and Salomon Kalou over the past few weeks - scoring 12 goals in their last two games.

But manager Carlo Ancelotti is still keen to strengthen his forward line and wants to sign the Italy international. The player's agent, though, insists he is staying at Juventus and has quashed such exit talk.

"It is a normal thing that Chelsea may have enquired about an important player like Iaquinta, who is highly regarded by Carlo Ancelotti," Andrea D'Amico told Sportitalia.

"But this does not mean that he will go. For Juventus, he is indispensable."

Van Gaal hits out at Germany plans

Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal has branded the decision to organise a four-day training get-together for the Germany squad this week as "madness".

National team coach Joachim Loew named a 30-man squad - to meet in Stuttgart today and return to their clubs next Thursday - as he looks to assess the condition of players he is considering taking to this summer's World Cup.

Five Bayern players - Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Thomas Muller, Mario Gomez and Miroslav Klose are involved.

"I think this is madness," Van Gaal said in Kicker.

"We pay the players. Four days is not normal. I also have to prepare for a game."

Van Gaal added: "I have never experienced anything like this before and I have coached many top teams."

Birmingham close in on Gardner

Birmingham City are poised to sign midfielder Craig Gardner from local Premier League rivals Aston Villa for three million pounds ($4.84 million), the Midlands club said.

The former England under-21 international will move to St Andrews subject to passing a medical and agreeing personal terms. The 23-year-old, who can also play at full-back, has made 79 appearances for Villa, who he joined as a trainee.

"Craig is a versatile and dynamic player who can perform in a number of positions," said City manager Alex McLeish. "Players like that are really worth their weight in gold."

Birmingham said Gardner had supported City since childhood.
