St Benedict's College Boys Secondary School, Kirkop, together with schools from Cyprus and Italy are project partners in the Comenius project 'Endemic and indigenous species and their protection'.

At the latest project meeting, held recently in Limassol, Cyprus, the local school was represented by teachers Sharon Sammut and Marisa Bonavia, and students Luca Schembri, François Borg, Justin Farrugia, Ryan Pantalleresco and Daniel Scerri.

After flying in to Larnaca Airport, and a short coach trip to the hotel in Limassol, the Maltese delegates were warmly greeted by students and teachers from the host school, Pascal Greek School Lemesos. Later on that evening the Italian participants arrived.

Since the first morning in Limassol was a Sunday, not a school day, the group visited the Donkey Sanctuary in the Troodos Mountains, and afterwards had lunch in the small village of Omodos. The next day, after being given a guided tour of the Cypriot school, the project meeting was held, during which the Maltese, Cypriot and Italian representatives gave their respective presentations.

After lunch, the delegates visited the Environmental Education and Information Centre of Akrotiri where they were shown short videos on Cypriot environmental and education programmes.

The following day they visited the Greek theatre of Kourium, which has magnificent mosaic floors. Later that evening, the host school's parents' association held a dinner for the meeting participants, complete with typical Cypriot ambience and traditional dancing.

The last day was spent in Larnaca where participants were given a guided tour of various historical monuments, including Larnaca Castle.
