College holds fourth monologue marathon

Over 150 middle school students at St Martin's College, Swatar, recently took part in the fourth edition of the college's Monologue Marathon.

To take part in the event the budding actors had to find or write a suitable script, think up costumes and props, and perform monologues in front of a panel of judges.

This year the marathon lasted 11 hours, surpassing the aim to clock up a total of 10 acting hours.

The aim of the marathon is to collect sponsorships for grants to be awarded to students who score the highest marks. In fact, the marathon raised €4,795, which will go towards funding the visit of 25 students to London to take part in a specially-tailored course at Pineapple Studios in Covent Garden, as well as attend several theatre shows.

The marathon is organised by the school's drama teacher Kurt Cini, who also organises the annual drama trip to London. Over the seven years in which it has been organised, the marathon has generated a total of €17,500 for the college's drama fund.
