Hibs-Valletta - the plum fixture in QFs
Floriana face Ħamrun
Premier League big guns Hibernians and Valletta were drawn to face each other in the quarter-finals of the National League 100 Anniversary Cup yesterday.
The Hibernians vs Valletta match is not the only all-Premier League tie scheduled for the quarter-finals of this one-off competition as Floriana were pitted against Ħamrun Spartans.
Tarxien Rainbows and Sliema Wanderers, the other top-flight teams in yesterday's draw, were handed easier ties. They were paired with Lija Athletic and Mosta respectively.
The match between Hibernians and Valletta will attract much of the attention next month given the high-standing these two clubs enjoy in local football circles.
The Paolites beat the Citizens 1-0 in the BOV Premier League last October and are set to face each other again tomorrow in the main match of the weekend at the National Stadium.
The tie between Floriana and Ħamrun Spartans is also expected to be close as both teams are currently engaged in the race to win one of the places in the Championship Pool this season. In the two league meetings so far, the Greens won the first-round match 1-0 while the corresponding second-round fixture ended in a 1-1 draw.
Tarxien Rainbows will fancy their chances of reaching the semi-finals when they were drawn against Division Two side Lija Athletic while Sliema Wanderers, now under the helm of Mark Marlow, are strong favourites to progress when they face Division One side Mosta.
All four quarter-finals are scheduled to be played on February 10 at the Hibs Ground and the National Stadium.
Quick Keno Division II/III SF
The draw of the semi-finals of the Quick Keno Division Two and Three knock-out were held yesterday. Għargħur play Senglea and Mellieħa face Żejtun Corinthians. These two ties will be played on Wednesday, February 10.
