AEGEE-Valletta, a university-based non-profit student association, recently hosted a group of Ukrainian youths from its twin antenna, AEGEE-Kyiv. The guests enjoyed a week-long stay in Malta and described the island as "a dream".
Participants visited Valletta, Mdina, the Three Cities, Ħaġar Qim and Gozo, among others. They also experienced Maltese food, and learnt about Maltese traditions.
During the exchange, AEGEE-Valletta also organised a workshop and a seminar on youth social exclusion on the occasion of the European year 2010, which is dedicated to combating poverty and social exclusion.
During a ceremony commemorating the event, Deputy Prime Minister Tonio Borg said this exchange represented an excellent example of a "people to people" approach in which a good relationship on the diplomatic level bears its fruits at other levels of society, a thought shared by John Debono, Consul to Ukraine, who was also a guest at the ceremony.
Mr Debono hoped that the twinning agreement bet-ween the two antennae will continue to flourish in the years to come.
