A migrant was critically injured last night when a car crossed the centre-strip at Council of Europe Street, Luqa, and crashed into a tree on the opposite side.

He was one of four men travelling in the Citroen car at the time of the incident. All the passengers were taken to hospital for treatment. The driver ran away from the scene but later turned himself in at Zabbar police station. He is being held for questioning.

Both the passengers and the driver are residents of Hal Far open centre.
Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani is heading an inquiry.
