'Impressive' response to Haiti appeal
The Civil Protection Department (CPD) has received enough donations to fill eight containers of aid to the earthquake victims of Haiti.
The Home Affairs Ministry said the high point of the collection was reached this afternoon, with a queue of cars having been formed outside the CPD warehouse in Marsa.
The CPD collected tinned food, water and blankets for the earthquake victims.
Home Affairs Minister Carm Mifsud Bonnici described the people's response as impressive.
He thanked the people for their generosity as well as the workers of the CPD and volunteers, including those from St John Ambulance, who helped receive the donations.
The containers will be packed and dispatched later this week.
The CPD will continue to receive monetary donations on Bank of Valletta account 40018758443 and HSBC account 078-002391-050.

Dear Mr.Michael Andrews.
Solidarity is indeed part of our nation's soul. May I thank you for your efforts with the Maltese language. It is indeed very commendable. Maltese drivers are afar cry from the typical British drivers courtesy I have witnissed having lived in the UK for 6 years. Anyway let us hope this will change somehow.
With my best wishes.

Thanks Mr Andrews, people like you with your comments make me more proud to be Maltese. You just forgot to name the generosity of the Maltese in fund raisings such as l- Istrina, for Puttinu Cares , Dar tal-Providenza and much more. Need to remind people that still have not got the chance to give donations for the Haiti victims, still got the chance to give monetary donations on both BOV and HSBC accounts (if you have internet banking it is very simple to donate on the internet)

I have lived on this island for nearly 15 years now.
I speak the language and also read and write the language too.
I hate the drivers, only for the fact they dont have a clue and there are alot of backstabbers.
Mostly the Maltese are fun and good people.
However, i am always impressed by the response of this small island when it comes to helping someone out in need such as Haiti and the Tsunami.
Their contribution is always huge and from the heart for which i applaud you all.
Well done to all who donated and keep it coming.
