Haiti donations to CPD fill four containers
The Civil Protection Department has so far received enough donations to fill four containers of aid to the Haiti earthquake victims.
The department started collecting tinned food, water, blankets and clothing yesterday and is continuing today. Some of the aid will also be given to victims of recent flooding in Albania.
Patrick Murgo, CPD deputy director, said cars were pulling up at the CPD's Humanitarian Aid section every two minutes between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. yesterday.
People continued to make their donations this morning, with many bringing in water.
One donor, Mario Camilleri from Qormi, said: "I felt I had to do something when I saw the suffering. If something similar happened in Malta we'd want someone to help us too."
The donations are being received at the warehouse in Marsa. It can be reached by turning left at the roundabout just below Mcast.

Can somebody please explain the logic of sending bulky freight across to the other side of the world when such items are cheaply and more expressly available in nearby Santo Domingo. International Agencies do not want blankets and tinned food but money which are administered by reliable entities such as the Red Cross Society and various others.

Following this disaster on the news & feeling pity for those chldren is not enough- we have to do more- can someone official - give us or publicise bank account numbers so monetary donations could be made- apart from the phyical donation of water & other bulky provisions- which in my opnion will prove too costly to transport all that way- better use should be made of the containers- like medicines.
The money can then be used to purchase other basic needs from a nearer country.
