The local councils section of the Labour Party has called on the government to explain how local councils are being chosen for special funding and by whom.

In a statement, the section said many councils were spending a lot of time and effort on preparing detailed submissions for schemes and projects announced by the government, and in the interests of transparency, it was important for the government to explain how the eventual choices were made, what criteria were used, and who applied them.
