UHM sets up commission to study health proposals
A commission has been set up by the Union Haddiema Maghqudin to study proposals and initiatives listed in the consultation document on strengthening the primary health care.
The document was launched by Health Minister John Dalli and Parliamentary Secretary Joe Cassar a few weeks ago. It gives an analytical overview of the service today and lists probabilities of what care society would be patients would be receiving in the coming years.
The commission is made up of union president Gaetano Tanti, secretary general Gejtu Vella, assistant secretary general Jesmond Bonello, hospital workers' section secretary Joe Bonello, pensioners' section secretary Alfred St John, public entities' section secretary Josef Vella and family community doctor John Zammit Montebello.
It will be meeting several workers and professions in primary health care as well as union delegates. The commission would then report to the UHM general council with proposals the union would be making for patients to remain at the centre of all decisions.

Does this mean that they ll argue in favour of making people suffering from depression, and difficult pregnancies unable to qualify for sick leave, as has happened in past agreements between the UHM and the employer?

UHM, about time that people be respected.Issue should be,Doctors not present as per appointment. This is on regular basis, causing more stress to patients but also confusion to other co-workers.No.2 issue ,patients in waiting areas. We have to queue in small groups four times until it's time for our appointment. This causes extra stress, packing people in small areas. No 4.,the heating system in hospital. One has to consider a crowed place requires the room temperature to be lowered. We have a habit of over dressing, while the nurses go round in short sleeves.
Another problem and this is more series.Dr. X prescribes Valium, and from the govt despencery you receive another Deazepam, on opening the bag you find that the pills has the name Stedon.Yes they are for the same purpose,BUT who are they to know more than the doctor to change the pills, perhaps the side effects etc do not tally with other medicine the patient is receiving, or suppose of overdoze.I asked the top brass to change the name on the ''white card''as to pills supplied by despenser. She replied,''we cannot do that, the doctor has to do it'' so who the hell gave her permission to supply other pills, who will take responsibility !!!!!

I wish to congratulate the UHM for taking such an initiative. May I suggest that on its website the UHM publishes brief reports on the findings and conclusions of this Commission – even in the form of work-in-progress – on a regular basis? In this way the membership will know what is being said and discussed, and it would be possible to submit further feedback and input. Keep up the good work.

@J.Tonna - Speaking in your language; YEAH RIGHT. Back to the article. Great news! Yet another layer of bureaucracy over ...uhm... bureaucracy. What we need is directives and laws on project managers and employers, not complicating matters. Another plot on get more people? Seems to me we're turning life itself into political colours.

Well done to UHM for being a proactive union for patients right where it really matters. I think other organisations will follow this example and put foward their proposals.
