A 27-year-old man accused of slightly injuring his father on Tuesday evening was heard by the police repeatedly threatening to kill the victim, a magistrate was told yesterday.
Jonathan Calleja of Birkirkara had a long-standing dispute with his father, which culminated in a bloody fight outside the Għargħur football club three days ago. When officers arrived on the scene, Mr Calleja was in more than one instance heard threatening to kill his father, Police Inspector Bernard Spiteri said.
Mr Calleja, who appeared in court with a big gash across his face, pleaded not guilty to threatening his father, breaching the public peace and slightly injuring his father during the argument.
Taking into consideration the fact that the two men lived in different localities, Magistrate Audrey Demicoli granted the accused bail against a deposit of €500 and a personal guarantee of €1,500.
Lawyer Chris Cardona appeared for the accused.
Lawyer Anġlu Farrugia appeared parte civile.
