Football - National teams' training scheme

Sciriha to meet MFA president tomorrow

Valletta president Victor Sciriha is set for showdown talks with Malta FA head Joe Mifsud tomorrow afternoon over the Premier League club's stance on the national teams' training scheme.

The Citizens and the MFA have been unable to strike an agreement over the scheme as Valletta want to have more control over their international players with regards to their availability for training during the week.

In November, the MFA president warned Valletta of disciplinary action after their players skipped a training session at Ta' Qali on a Wednesday morning. The absence of Valletta players from the national squad's first training session of 2010 last week further heightened the tension between the club and the MFA.

It is believed that, after meeting the players affected by this dispute, Sciriha has agreed to let them train three times a week with the national coaches but Valletta are adamant that their players should be given the morning off two days after they have played a domestic match.
