Education Minister Dolores Cristina has told Labour MP Owen Bonnici that the number of foreign students accommodated at the University residence in Lija last year was 225, an increase of 14 over the previous year. In 2006, there were 87 students while this increased by 120 to 207 in 2007.

The present students come from the UK, France, Italy, the US, Turkey, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Sweden, Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Holland and India.

These students pay €1,302.50 for the first term in standard sharing accommodation and €1,273 for the second term. Single accommodation costs €1,858 for the first term and €1,816 for the second.

Post graduates pay €1,541 and €1,506.50 in sharing accommodation while single accommodation costs €2,315.50 and €2,264.

During the past five years no Gozitan University students availed themselves of accommodation at this residence.
