Two cousins were conditionally discharged for one year after admitting that they disobeyed orders in a run-in with the police this weekend.

Karl Attard, 24, and Rudi Agius, 24, were also charged with breaking the peace in Dragonara Street, St Julians at about 3 a.m. on Sunday.

Mr Attard alone was accused of assaulting Superintendent Stephen Gatt and Mr Agius with damaging a police car.

They filed guilty pleas to all the charges.

It is understood that an argument broke out when Mr Attard's girlfriend was caught smoking inside a club by the police. Mr Agius went to his cousin's aid and got caught up in a scuffle, breaking the car's side mirror in the process.

Inspectors Trevor Micallef and Nickolai Sant prosecuted. Lawyers Manuel Mallia and Roberto Montalto represented Mr Attard and Mr Agius respectively.
