Atalanta gave much-travelled coach Bortolo Mutti the job of trying to steer them out of the Serie A relegation zone yesterday after Antonio Conte quit the Bergamo club last week.
"Atalanta communicate that they have put Lino (Bortolo) Mutti in charge of the first team," the club, who are second from bottom with 13 points from 18 games, said.
The 55-year-old former Napoli and Reggina boss returned to Atalanta after being in charge during the 1998-99 season in Serie B (second division).
He is their third coach of the season. Conte resigned on Thursday after replacing Angelo Gregucci in September following four defeats in the first four league matches of the campaign.
