The government this afternoon scorned the Opposition for having given notice of a motion to bring into force 2002 legislation on legal assistance to persons under arrest, pointing out that the Justice Minister had said last week that he was about to do just that.
"The Opposition presented its motion today because it knows that the amendment is being brought into force," the Ministry of Justice and Home Affairs said.
The minister made his comments on PBS on Thursday, when he also said that the police force would be strengthened through the purchase of a new DNA analysis machine, the ministry said.
The PL in a statement in reply to the ministry's statement said that the government should, therefore, have no problem in debating the Opposition motion.
