After the 1968 riots in the US following the assassination of Martin Luther King, the British Tory politician Enoch Powell wrote:

"We must be literally mad, as a nation, to be permitting the annual inflow of some 50,000 dependents who are for the most part the material of the future growth of the immigrant descended population. It is like watching a nation busily engaged in heaping up its own funeral pyre."

Mr Powell, who died in 1998, was then castigated as a racist and condemned by the liberal left, but now those same liberals are saying that, indeed, he was right. Next year, 2011, the population of Leicester will be 50 per cent non-white, the first major British city without a white majority. Malta is facing the same future.

What began as a few curious-looking boats on the way to Italy being washed ashore in Malta has become a flood of Africans now targeting Malta as an entry point into the EU. Undocumented Africans are now being employed throughout the country; on a recent visit to a grocery store an African clerk told me: "Welcome to Malta." "Yes," he said, "I am a citizen of Malta and plan to bring my family here."

In view of the indifference of the government and Church authorities in Malta to the issue, questions that may soon emerge regarding this issue are: Should they be allowed to enrol their children into school, intermarry, open their own businesses, become an MP? And on and on.
