Maltese businesses seeking commercial opportunities in India had the support of the Maltese High Commission in New Delhi, Foreign Affairs Minister Tonio Borg said during the inauguration of a new office in the Indian capital.

He said the opening was an important step towards strengthening bilateral relations between Malta and India.

Wilfred Kenely became the first Maltese High Commissioner to India in July 2007. Dr Borg praised the High Commission's work, saying it was crucial in strengthening investment contacts between the two countries.

During his visit to India on Thursday, Dr Borg held meetings with Indian industrialists in Chennai, where a Maltese consulate was opened.
