One Television was fined €2,329 by the Broadcasting Authority after it violated Broadcasting Act provisions on the filming of children during the entertainment programme Singled Out.
The broadcasting watchdog said it was unacceptable to show children speaking about their personal lives during the programme.
"The appearance of these children on the programme was certainly not in their interest but in the interest of the producer in order to try to make the programme more popular," the regulator said. It was the programme producer's duty to ensure that the children's participation was in their interest rather than somebody else's, it said.
It added that the producers were obliged to safeguard the children's rights, saying that young children had difficulty distinguishing bet-ween what was real and what was not.
