Carnival to again feature late Saturday activities

This year's carnival programme will again feature an evening defile' and dancing in St Anne Street, Floriana, on the Saturday of Carnival weekend, according to a programme issued today by the Malta Council for Culture and the Arts.

Carnival is little more than a month away, with activities due to be held between Friday, February 12 and Tuesday February 16.

The programme follows the pattern of the last few years, although this may well be the last time that the dancing competitions will be held at Freedom Square, Valletta, which has been earmarked for the building of the new Parliament.

The programme for Saturday February 13 features the usual morning children's carnival. There will be a Carnival band show in Valletta at 4 pm and a defile' and dancing competitions later in the afternoon.

At 6.30 p.m. all Carnival items and triumphal floats will proceed to St. Anne Street, Floriana for the late evening defile' and night carnival which will also include the Kukkanja, near Vilhena Monument and other activities such as carnival balls, carnival games, and live band gigs. The experiment was successfully tried last year.

The usual defile' will be held in the streets of Valletta on Sunday.

There will be a carnival band parade and children's activities in Valletta on Monday morning followed by dancing competitions and the defile' in the evening.

The activities will be repeated on Tuesday with the grand finale at St. Anne's Street, Floriana.
