Premier League leaders Qormi sealed the first major signing of the January transfer window yesterday when completing the loan move of Stefan Giglio from Valletta.

The 30-year-old midfielder found it hard to win a regular place in the City team this season.

Giglio, who also had a spell in the Bulgarian league with CSKA Sofia before joining Sliema Wanderers, was among Valletta president Victor Sciriha's first signings three years ago but injury and poor form limited his chances with the club that launched his career in the 1990s.

Qormi, who are also interested in Sliema's Matthew Bartolo, have reportedly received an offer for Camilo from a South Korean club but the Brazilian striker is staying put.

Last weekend, the Yellows con-solidated top spot with a 3-0 win over Msida.

Giglio could make his Qormi debut in Friday's match against champions Hibernians.

Giglio's transfer is likely to trigger an exodus of fringe players from Valletta with striker Ian Zammit very close to joining Ħamrun Spartans and Cleaven Frendo and Justin Grioli linked with a loan move to Tarxien Rainbows.

Agius joins Melfi

Andrei Agius will spend the rest of the season at AS Melfi after completing a loan move from fellow Lega Pro Seconda Divisione C club AS Cassino, yesterday.

This season, Agius, 23, made eight starts for AS Cassino, currently seventh in the standings with 28 points from 18 matches.

Agius joins AS Melfi ahead of this weekend's resumption of the championship where his new team from the Basilicata region will host Barletta on Sunday.

Melfi are 13th in the standings with 13 points from 18 matches.
