A Maltese High Commission is being inaugurated in New Delhi, India this week.

Foreign Minister Tonio Borg leaves Malta for a four-day visit to India tomorrow, during which he will also inaugurate a consulate in the maritime city of Chennai.

A month ago, Malta Enterprise led a business delegation to India during which a number of meetings were held between Maltese and Indian entrepreneurs.

A spokesman for the minister confirmed that meetings with major Indian businessmen will take place during this visit in an effort to attract further direct foreign investment.

A number of bilateral agreements will also be signed.

Over the past 18 months, Malta has signed a record 45 bilateral agreements with third countries, including 14 on double taxation.
