Many families ignored the cold and took to Valletta this afternoon to get immersed in the magic of the capital, the venue for Citta Magica, which is being held along Republic and Merchants' streets and Freedom and St George's squares until midnight.

The event kicked off with bands playing in Republic Street, followed by the Police Band, a display by police dogs and their handlers, and a historical re-enactment at St George's Square.

Several popular bands performed in St George's Square and others in Merchants' Street. More are performing in Freedom Square this evening.

Public transport has been extended to after midnight as has the park-and-ride service from Floriana to Valletta.

Restaurant and shops took the opportunity for some extra business and will remain open till late. Some shops are offering discounts over and above their sale.
