Stripes’s first half flurry floors Spartans

Hamrun - 0, Birkirkara - 2

Birkirkara stretched their unbeaten run in the BOV Premier League to five matches after they lowered the colours of Hamrun Spartans 2-0 at the National Stadium this afternoon.

After a bright start from the Spartans it was Birkirkara who broke the stalemate on 33 minutes when Michael Galea chested the ball down to Shaun Bajada whose stinging drive from the edge of the area flew past Ivan Casha, the Hamrun goalkeeper.

The goal was a hard blow for the Spartans and it was no surprise that the Stripes struck again on the stroke of half time when Paul Fenech’s curling cross picked Michael Galea in the area and the veteran forward had little difficulty in firing the ball past Casha.

The Spartans were down and out now and Birkirkara easily administered their lead after the break to move within two points of leaders Qormi.
