Dr Bonello Dupuis' memory seems to be playing tricks on him. Nobody ever kicked me out of the Nationalist Party of which I was a member long before the former minister. On the dissolution of Parliament in 1987 I merely decided not to contest a general election again.
Also, the comparison made is far too facile. In my 21 years as Member of Parliament it was only in the mid-1980s that I was not in full accord with my party's reaction to the violence condoned, if not instigated, by some members of the MLP government.
I felt the actions that were taken by the Nationalist opposition were not sufficiently strong.
My actions were motivated by the desire to do what was in the best interest of the country and my constituents.
So where is the comparison with any disgruntled Nationalists today?
