Probably like a number of others, I would be very interested to know on what factual basis Fr Joe Borg bases his assertion (The Sunday Times, December 27) about "the almost certain introduction of divorce during the next 10 years".
And perhaps there are also a few questions that need to accompany this request.
Is he aware that such utterings continue to fuel the divorcist mentality about which we were wisely warned by our pastors up to only a few years ago, but which media hacks blissfully or (in Machiavellian fashion) ignored, to the point that we now find ourselves in the situation where key opinion makers are even comfortable declaring "almost certain inevitability"?
Is he happy with editors - such as that of The Sunday Times, whose pro-divorce mentality is now well-known in Malta - selecting 'juicy' bits from his writing to highlight?
If any proposal for any divorce law were to be introduced by any Member of Parliament (now or in 10 years' time), would he fatalistically allow it to be voted through without feeling the need to write articles about its correctness or otherwise?
Finally, is there some point along the process of conditioning the popular mindset by the media where some key opinion makers should openly declare themselves in favour, or against, divorce?
Editor's note: John Consiglio should make an attempt to practise what he preaches, and base certain assertions on fact rather than vitriolic fiction.
