Union lifts Tug Malta actions

The Malta Dockers Union yesterday called off industrial action at Tug Malta after the company withdrew its policy not to replace seamen on leave or sick leave.

On New Year's Eve, the union instructed members not to operate tug boats that had a crew of fewer than four people. Talks between the union and management reached a stalemate with both sides interpreting the relevant collective agreement clauses differently.

The company referred the dispute to the Industrial Tribunal and until a decision is handed down tug boats will continue to be operated with a minimum crew of four.
