Qormi could not have had a better start. After only four minutes, they won a short corner which saw Juan Sarcia flick the ball high into the top corner of the net.

This early goal seemed to have demoralised Sliema and Qormi took total control. However, their conclusions were rash and ineffective.

After the change of ends, Qormi quickly added a second when Phillip Magri released Jonathan Aquilina who had no difficulty beating Cole. Then, on 43 minutes, a three-man move between Calleja, Magri and Aquilina was concluded by Petrovic for goal no.3.

Now, the Sliema defence were all over the place and Qormi did not take long to move 4-0 up through Aquilina after some good spadework by Keith Calleja.

After this goal, Qormi eased the pressure and Sliema took advantage by scoring two quick goals, both through penalty strokes that were converted by Silvano Vassallo.

Sliema tried hard to salvage the game but on the day, they were no match to a superior Qormi side.

White Hart and Rabat Depiro produced a spectacular game of hockey with lots of goalmouth action.

By the second minute, Anthony Roberts had already tested Azzopardi in the Rabat goal and on four minutes, Robert Vassallo Agius denied Shawn Falzon following a short corner action.

Luke Borg Costanzi had a chance to break the deadlock but his hit missed the target. On 24 minutes, Pat Meli lost possession to Jonathan Micallef who advanced unhindered towards the White Hart goal, rounded Vassallo Agius and slotted the ball home.

White Hart were shocked by this setback and quickly conceded a second. A one-two move between Antonelli duo Charlot and Josef ended with the latter pushing the ball into an empty net.

But, White Hart soon got their act together and on the stroke of half-time pulled a goal back through a Carl Tua special.

White Hart took matters in hand at the start of the second period and pinned their opponents in their own half. Torpiano just missed the target after receiving from David Agius and Azzopardi made a good save from Borg Costanzi.

But, White Hart were not to be denied and on 46 minutes Keith Laferla restored parity with a flick from just inside the D.

This goal brought a reaction from Rabat who would have regained the lead but for two splendid saves from Vassallo Agius on Falzon and Charlot Antonelli.

Vassallo Agius tipped the ball round the post following a Kevin Micallef effort on 56 minutes but White Hart went ahead. From a short corner action, Borg Costanzi unleashed a venomous hit which left the Rabat defence motionless.

The defending champions were somewhat unlucky not to equalise when Antonelli's hit came off the post with Vassallo Agius saving the rebound.

For the rest of the game, both sides kept fighting hard for every ball with White Hart proving more dangerous on the counter attack.

The league will resume on Sunday.
