Night of nights?
Video: Mark Zammit Cordina
Tonight is the biggest night of the year for the majority of people.
So will it be gala dinners, open bar parties in large venues or something intimate with friends and family?
Or will the recession and pending bills lead people to choose something cheaper?

A happy new year my beloved Malta and fellow Maltese from an ice cold Sweden were the trees are covered in snow and the sky lights up now and then with fireworks.

New years eve, in England anyway seems to act as a licence to get drunk and upset people, the pubs are heaving you cannot get near the bar and the scum of the earth seem to be everywhere. The best thing is to have a house party with family and friends drink ,food, games etc a much better evening, that's where i will be tonight .I must be getting old, roll on next summer all the best to you all in Malta.

I fully agree with Mr. Agius. The biggest nights of the year are those of Christmas Eve and Easter Vigil as new year's eve is totally materialistic- eating out, drinking and of course getting drunk etc.
In any case happy new year to all The Times readers, staff and bloggers.

For me the Night of Nights is the night of Christmas and the Vigil of Easter, for they are feasts that really make sense were we celebrate the true light that lights the life of mankind. I cannot see the sense in celebrating a new day in a calendar. Only Christ do make our days make sense for he is the Alpha and Omega, the Beggining and End of time.
Happy New Year ppl, but lets make sense of what we celebrate and lets not stop on materialism. I wish you all a year full of peace, joy, and love.

A. Grech, if you really hate it when that happens, and come the morning you don't know the name because you never asked, then you really are taking great risks. Don't.
I play safe. I stay in this evening and tomorrow I wake up feeling refreshed and ready for my first tea/coffee.
David Vella could do something similar. And better. It is called the new going out. He could go to church and stay there until next year. What could be safer and more 'holier-than-thou'. Ahjar il-Bambin jaghtini l-pace-ville-ma'-Wenza !!!!

New Year is a global celebration. There's a song "Happy New Year" by ABBA. We put the song on Youtube and included photos of many cities around the world decorated for this Festive Season.
You can view it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cn_sK3i2juY
