The chief investigator of airport accidents has launched an inquiry to establish what led to a Globe Ground Malta van to collide with a Libyan Arab Airlines Bombardier CRJ-900ER aircraft at about 2 p.m. yesterday.

The airplane was parked on the apron when the collision occurred not long before it was due to take off.

A spokesman for Malta International Airport said yesterday the cause of the incident was still unclear. The spokesman explained that, the plane's nose was slightly dented and the van's driver was taken to the airport's in-house clinic to be examined for shock. He was otherwise unhurt.

At the time, there were 11 passengers onboard. They took an Air Malta flight to Tripoli in the evening.
