Another season of competition and international participation came to a close recently.
At the 10th edition of the World Scrabble Championships, held in Malaysia, Malta managed to guard its territory, consisting of two places in the world's most prestigious tournament, thanks to the performances of Theresa Brousson and David Delicata. They finished 30th and 72nd respectively out of a field of 108 participants.
The Autumn League, organised by the Malta Scrabble Club, was also completed after three months of play with Brousson, Mario Seychell and Paul Frendo coming tops in the first, second and third divisions respectively. Delicata, Frans Farrugia and Pauline Cilia were the runners-up in each division.
Participants were given the chance to opt for a less busy schedule of play against the same opponents but within a separate classification. The top guns in this classification were Nicky Vella Laurenti, Annemarie Holland and Dominic Borg.
Daniel Abela, only 12, was the clear winner of the club's first junior one-day tournament.
Claire Bugeja and James Brockdorff placed second and third respectively.
This junior event was held in parallel to the club's final one-day tournament of the year where Brousson took the honours, followed by Christine Strawbridge and Charles Micallef. The ratings prizes went to Cilia, newcomer Alan Abela and Holland.
