A Somali immigrant who made his way to the UK after escaping the Hal Far Detention Centre was returned to Malta when he was found out after seeking asylum.

Mohammed Husni Rauel, 19, yesterday admitted to escaping and going to the UK in September.

Inspector Nezren Grixti told the court that when the British authorities looked into Mr Rauel’s background following his bid for asylum, they found he had escaped from Malta and returned him to the island

He was jailed for six months.
