Record number of contacts made with Maltese embassies
A record number of contacts were made this year with Maltese embassies abroad, the Foreign Ministry said.
The ministry said that just under 20,000 contacts were made, a substantial increase over last year's 7,000. The increase could be attributed to the ministry's emphasis on embassies' work leading to a greater understanding of their importance by the people.
The ministry said that Foreign Minister Tonio Borg also took part in more tha 30 official visits, a third of which were to non-EU countries inclduing the Middle East, Arab states, the US and Australia.

I had a problem while in the North of Italy last month. After making contact with the Maltese embassy in Rome I recieved a reply the following day by e-mail which solved my issue. As far as I'm concerned that was an excellent service by the staff at the Maltese Embassy in Rome. Thank you very much and keep up the good work. Hope you get to read this message.

More contacts, less investments and jobs, higher unemployment figures.
Really something to boast about. Reminds me of the pre election poster with Dr. Gonzi and the caption.
Gonzi Iggib ix-xoghol"
Nothing about contacts mentioned then.

And how often do the Embassies care to reply? In particular the one in Spain (speaking from personal experience as an expat in Spain). Thankyou minn qiegh qalbi ta' xejn.

Maltese embassies should focus on commercial contacts. its not the record number of contacts which is impressive. What are the benifits Malta is gaining. The running cost of such embassies runs into thousands of euros. There are so much opportunities out there, however what the maltese embassies need are good commercial personel, with the knowledge how to find miche markets for Maltese companies with limited budget to cover sales and commercial trips.
